History of WebFlicks

In September 1998 two Melbourne university students launched DVD Rent, the first Australian website to provide a DVD rent-by-mail service. DVD Rent

offered DVDs for 7-day rental, as well as a rent-buy scheme and DVD sales. The popular site grew to have a large customer base and needing full time

employees to handle logistics and customer service. As time was limited for the two PhD students they closed the site down in order to pursue their

research work and write their theses.

In March 2002 WebFlicks bought the DVDRent.com.au domain name and rebuilt the website and back-end logistics system to cater for the growing

demand and projected volumes of DVD rentals throughout Australia. July 2002 - The new WebFlicks site opened its virtual doors to the public. Through

strategic marketing and business partnerships, WebFlicks continues as the first online DVD rental service for Australian movie-lovers. From offering our

customers the choice of 3,000 titles in 2002 we can now offer over 17,000 titles.

The same software designed originally for WebFlicks which was developed by Riversdale is now used for DVD online companies in two continents.

Video Island in the UK launches a similar service using the same superb software and logistics system as WebFlicks (supplied by Riversdale).

DiViDi in Germany launches using the same software platform.

Fatso in New Zealand launches using the same software platform and logistics system as WebFlicks. The WebFlicks DVD catalogue swells to a huge

10,000 titles.

AdultFlix in Australia launches using the same software platform and logistics system.
